Almost 20 years ago, Wildabout Orkney adopted the otter for our company logo.  We are pleased to announce that we have adopted an actual Eurasian (Lutra lutra) otter named Catkin, through the International Otter Survival Fund (IOSF).

Catkin’s Story:
My name is Catkin and I am a female otter cub.  At about 3 months old I was found alone at Dyce near Aberdeen and was taken to a vet who then arranged for me to travel to IOSF on the Isle of Skye.  IOSF will now care for me until I am old enough to go back to the wild.

Wildabout Orkney is proud to be a Life Supporter of IOSF and to assist in the worldwide conservation of otters.

2008 Update

We are pleased to report that Catkin has been successfully rehabilitated and released back into the wild. 

Wildabout Orkney is proud to continue our support of IOSF by adopting another otter, Leven.

Leven’s Story:
My name is Leven and I am a young female otter.  I was found wandering on a walkway near to Glenrothes, Fife when I was about 9 weeks old and when it was obvious that I was lost and alone, the Scottish SPCA was contacted.  They cared for me until I could travel to IOSF’s rehabilitation centre on the Isle of Skye, where I am now settled and share a pen with my friend, Lunan. 

I will stay at IOSF until I am 12-15 months of age, which is when I would have left my mother normally.  This will give me my best chance back in the wild.
