Trees for the Future (TREES) is a grassroots action program assisting people living on the world’s most degraded lands to improve their living standards through environmentally sound development projects.
TREES provide technical knowledge on agroforestry, reforestation and sustainable development, along with planting materials to help communities return their degraded lands back to sustainable production. Through their network of technicians, volunteers, and community leaders worldwide, their program reaches remote areas and shares with local people the knowledge and skills necessary to rehabilitate their environment.
TREES has assisted more than 300,000 families, in nearly 12,000 communities of Asia, Africa and the Americas, to plant over 60 million trees. This represents a land area of about 87,000 acres of degraded land restored to sustainable high productivity. Additionally, each year, these trees remove more than 1.5 million tons of carbon dioxide—the major greenhouse gas causing global climate change—from the Earth’s atmosphere.
